INSTITUTE MAY 1ST AT THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN MEXICO

Jan Škoberne, director of the 1st of May Institute, attended the “Progressive Pact” international conference in Mexico City at the beginning of June, organized by the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPPAL) and the World Progressive Alliance, whose goal is to draw attention to authoritarian populism, which is increasingly appearing in various parts of the world and harms democracy and human rights.

As one of the opening speakers, he spoke in his contribution about the importance of international cooperation, strengthening the rule of (international) law and solidarity in international relations. He highlighted efforts to respect human rights and freedoms, strengthen democracy, fight against inequality and the need for a united struggle of humanity to prevent a global climate catastrophe as key.

“Solidarity must be the foundation of international relations.”
