This is the first step towards full membership, and above all, confirmation that the planned development path of the May 1st Institute as a social democratic think tank is correct.

The Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) is the so-called think tank of the progressive political community at the EU level. The mission of FEPS is to research, develop innovative approaches, prepare policy advice, train and debate and inform socialist and social democratic women politicians across Europe. FEPS works in close partnership with its members and partners, establishing links and strengthening connections between stakeholders from the world of politics, academia and civil society at local, regional, national, European and global levels. FEPS was founded in 2008 as a political foundation at European level, linked to, but independent of, the Party of European Socialists (PES) and the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament (S&D). Since its inception, FEPS has been mostly financed by the European Parliament.

Today, FEPS has an extensive network of 74 member organizations. Among these are 43 regular members, 26 with observer status and 5 ex officio members. In addition to this network of organizations active in the promotion of progressive values, FEPS also has an extensive network of partners, including renowned universities, students, policy makers and activists.

The ambition of FEPS is to carry out intellectual reflection in favor of the progressive movement and to promote the fundamental principles of the EU – freedom, equality, solidarity, democracy, respect for human rights, fundamental freedoms, human dignity and the rule of law.

More information about the status of the May 1st Institute in FEPS will follow shortly.
